Don’t Be Tricked

Galatians 6:7-9

CBC 1/16/11 SM

ILL: little boy had special fruit tree he would climb & play imaginary games in. Dad going to cut it down b/c doesn’t produce fruit. Boy get up during night & ties a bunch of apples on tree limbs. Dad sees apples, doesn’t cut tree down & tells Mom, UR not gonna belive this…& it’s a “pear” tree!

Usually expect pears on pear tree b/c we’ve been taught U “reap what U sow”

Be not tricked; God is not made sport of: for whatever seed a man puts in, that will he get back as grain.

Gal 6:8 Because he who puts in the seed of the flesh will of the flesh get the reward of death; but he who puts in the seed of the Spirit will of the Spirit get the reward of eternal life.

Gal 6:9 And let us not get tired of well-doing; for at the right time we will get in the grain, if we do not give way to weariness.

· Parable of wheat & tares

o What was planted came up

· Gen 1:11 And God said, Let grass come up on the earth, and plants producing seed, and fruit-trees giving fruit, in which is their seed, after their sort: and it was so.

Be not tricked; God is not made sport of:

· Is it possible 4 us 2 B tricked?

o Maybe we think we’ve “pulled the wool” over God’s eyes?

o He doesn’t C what we’re doing

o He doesn’t know what’s N our hearts & minds

o Paul saying, “Don’t fool urself, ur not fooling God

o Whatever seed u r planting is going to come up

I. WISE SOWERS SOW WITH THE HARVEST IN MIND

· not for just the “fun” of planting

· what do u call a “planter” who doesn’t think about what they’re planting??? Foolish

o sowing “wild oats”

o harvest of:

§ bad health

§ short finances

§ innumerable other disasters

II. YOU WILL REAP WHAT YOU SOW

· Will reap what u sow

o Not something else

o Sow wild oats, won’t reap tame beneficial oats

· Sowing seed right now

· 2 times of harvest

o Seed we’ve sown in the past

o Ill: motorcycle accident, can’t hardly bend over when I get out of bed & then I have to run to get loose enough to make the day

o Future harvest: where u spend eternity…depends on crop u planted

III. YOU ALWAYS HARVEST MORE THAN YOU SOW

· Plant 1 kernel of corn & a plant comes up w/ 2 ears w/ guess how many kernels on each ear??? (a “bunch”)

· Applies if we sow “wild oats”

· Applies if we sow “tame oats”

IV. EVEN INNOCENT PEOPLE WILL REAP THE SEED THAT WE SOW

· Adam & Eve sowed some wild oats by disobeying God

o Who reaped the harvest of that???

o All of their decendants (U & Me)

· Set a bad example 4 ur children & guess what they will do???

o Exactly…more & worse

· Set a good example 4 ur children & guess what they will do???

o Exactly…more & better

· Seed we sow affects more than just us

CONCL: don’t be tricked

Ur not fooling

Confession Is Good
Nehemiah 9:1-3

CBC 1/16/11 SN
Confession leads to Consecration, and ultimately to Celebration.
* When we get right with God we bring the glory to God that He so richly deserves, and we will be blessed the way He wants to bless us.

· Obedience = Blessings

· Disobedience = judgment

· No half-hearted/fence riding/ weak kneed, watered down/ anemic Christianity will produce God’s best 4 us

Neh 9:1 On the twenty-fourth day of the seventh month, the people of Israel went without eating, and they dressed in sackcloth and threw dirt on their heads to show their sorrow.

Neh 9:2 They refused to let foreigners join them, as they met to confess their sins and the sins of their ancestors.

Neh 9:3 For three hours they stood and listened to the Law of the LORD their God, and then for the next three hours they confessed their sins and worshiped the LORD.
3 basics you'll find in their prayer of confession-Israel's God, Guilt, and Grace...
• Israel's God.
God centered prayer.

prayers today are man centered.

· what we want

· not about what God wants.

· Real confession is based on the character and nature of God.

· God is a glorious God.

· Everything the devil does ends in misery...

· everything God does ends in glory!

· saved by grace and it ends in glory.

· Jesus died on the cross, but He rose in glory.

· He had a glorious birth, a virgin birth.

· He had a glorious life, a perfect life,

· never sinning in thought, word, or deed.

· He had a glorious death, a sacrificial death, for the sins of the entire world.

· He had a glorious resurrection, bursting out of that tomb like a heavenly beam of light!

· glorious in His return to earth.
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

What a glorious day that will be

· God is a powerful God.

· world is trying to kill God w/ a big bang but it won't work.

· And the concept of billions of years is trying to erase the 6,000 year Bible history.

· We're desperately looking for some connection to monkeys when we should be reconnecting w/ our Maker!

· We're still searching for little green men that aren't there...but if we'd just open our eyes we could look into the face of the extra terrestrial Who created us and we could return to Him and be welcomed into His home beyond the stars!

· God is a caring God.

o hears when we cry.

· God is a trustworthy God.

o He's worth confessing to.

• Israel's guilt.
* we’ve come short of the glory of God

· None of us are righteous

· Sins of “co-mission”

· Sins of “o-mission”

• Israel's grace.
* received grace from God when they confessed.

· They deserved judgment

· in mercy God forgave them.

· Then He gives them blessing after blessing after blessing!

· None of this did they deserve.

· all gifts of grace.

· God is so good!

· And His goodness is leading them to repentance.

· God's first choice is to use goodness to lead us to Him,

· but if we insist, He will use judgment to bring us back to Him in repentance.
